Sending an application
You can submit all documents online that do not require an official certification.
In general, the following applies:
- Submit your application form electronically via tour online portal My assist.
- Send your educational certificates (including the overview of subjects and grades) and language certificates as officially certified copies in the original language and, if necessary, also in certified translation (into either English or German) by post.
- Other documents (for example, internship certificates, a CV, letters of motivation, letters of recommendation, passport copies, etc.) can be uploaded to your My assist account.
A few universities allow online-only applications using simple copies (scans) of all documents. For more information, please contact the university of your choice.
All required application documents, whether submitted online or by post, must be received by uni-assist before the end of the application deadline.
Only a small number of universities require an original signature on the application form.
Does the application form have a signature field on the last page? If so, you have to send the application form with your original signature by post.
You can't find a signature field on the last page of the application form? In this case you do not have to sign the application form and send it by post. The online application is sufficient.
During processing, your documents will be stamped and may be cut. After the safekeeping period ends, we destroy the documents. uni-assist does not return any documents.
For this reason, you should only send us officially certified copies, never originals!
uni-assist does not take responsibility for loss or damage by post.
Yes. You can submit all documents together in one envelope.
Please submit each document only once. That way you can reduce the cost.
These documents must meet the requirements in form and content for all universities of your choice. The requirements may differ from university to university.
Yes. You can send application documents for several applicants at the same time.
It must be clear which documents belong to which applicant. Use a separate envelope for each applicant, stating name and uni-assist applicant number on each envelope. Put all envelopes together into a larger envelope.
Yes. When you submit your documents, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt by email, generally within 24 hours after registration of your letter. If we do not have your email address, we will send you a confirmation of receipt by post.
Evaluation phase & status
You will usually receive your evaluation result in 4 to 6 weeks – counting from the day on which we received your application and payment. We evaluate all applications received in order of their arrival.
As soon as we have evaluated your application, we will inform you of the result by email and by post. You will then find out if your application is complete since this can only be determined during the evaluation of your application.
The application deadlines of the universities apply only to applicants. uni-assist has agreed on its own deadlines with the universities for evaluating applications.
Generally, universities do not start their admission process until uni-assist has evaluated all those applications which have been received complete and within the application deadline.
The most important thing is that your application and all documents have been received by uni-assist by the application deadline. In addition, the handling fees must be paid by the application deadline.
Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow more time for your application, because you generally still have to apply to the university directly using uni-assist’s VPD. The above-mentioned agreement does not apply to the VPD procedure.
You can check on the status of your application in your My assist account via the application overview.
You will find the current status directly below your desired course of study. The status will change once we have completely processed your application (or any documents you have submitted later).

Evaluation result & admission
We only forward applications that have been received with all documents complete by the end of the application deadline. If something is missing or has not been submitted in the right form, we cannot forward your application, unfortunately.
However, we will provide a list of what is missing or has not been submitted in the right form. If the application deadline has not expired yet, you can still complete your application.
Tip: Apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the application deadline expires. That way you can still submit missing documents in time.
Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow even more time for your application, because you still have to apply to the university directly using uni-assist’s VPD.
All documents must have been received by uni-assist before the application deadline expires. It matters when uni-assist receives the documents, not when you sent them. If an application has to be in paper form, it does not matter when you uploaded the documents in the online portal My assist. The handling fees must also be paid before the end of the application period.
If your documents or payment arrive after the deadline, we will be unfortunately unable to process your application successfully. This applies even if delivery of your shipment was delayed by the postal service provider or if the bank transferred the payment too late to our account.
We therefore recommend you to apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the application deadline expires.

No. uni-assist evaluates whether your application fulfils the prerequisites for admission. If it does, we will forward your application to the university‘s admission office.
The university examines the applications and decides on the admission. You will learn from the university whether you will be admitted and how to proceed.
uni-assist is not a public authority and cannot issue official letters that other public authorities recognise.
However: With the evaluation result of uni-assist, you can apply for a student applicant visa ("Studienbewerber-Visum") in the visa section of many German embassies or German consulates.
For further information, please contact your German embassy, consulate or foreigners’ registration office ("Ausländerbehörde").
Submitting missing documents
Yes. You can submit documents at any time before the application deadline expires.
Have we already forwarded your application to the university? In this case, please ask the university’s admission office where to send your documents.
Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow sufficient time for your application, because with uni-assist’s VPD, you still have to apply to the university directly.
We generally evaluate your additionally submitted documents 4 to 6 weeks after we have received them. We will again inform you of the results by email and by post.
You can check on the status of your application in your My assist account via the application overview. However, the status will change only once we have re-evaluated your application in its entirety and if the application is now complete.
You can easily edit your email address in your My assist account.
Click on “My Account“, “Edit login details“ and enter your current email address and your current password. You can now enter your new email address.
You can enter a new password in the “New password“ field. You want to keep your password? Then simply enter your current password.
Confirm your changes by clicking on “Save.“
You can easily correct your personal information yourself using the menu option "My account" when logged in to your My assist account.
In this menu, first click on "Applicant information", then select "Edit applicant information" on the Personal Information page. You may now edit your information.
Confirm your changes by checking the box next to the required mandatory question and enter your password. To finish, click on "Send applicant information."
If your name, date of birth, place of birth or nationality are changed, your online account will be blocked for approximately 48 hours because we have to confirm this information. You cannot create and edit applications during this time.
Do you need your account urgently and do you want to prevent your account from being blocked? Then please use our contact form to inform us of your changes. Please log in into the online portal before you contact us.
That is generally not necessary. It is important that you fill in your application form completely and truthfully. It does not matter if you make a typing error in your application form. Even if any of your details change, there is no need to submit a new application form.
The only time you should withdraw your application and create a new one via your My assist account is if you change your desired course of study before evaluation.
Important: Check the application deadline for your desired course of study before you withdraw your application and resubmit it. You have to submit the new application before the deadline expires.
