General information
Applying via our online portal My assist is mandatory if you are applying via uni-assist.
How to apply online:
- Register in My assist.
- Enter your applicant information and educational history.
- Select your desired course of study using the search below “Course catalogue.“
- Go to the “Selection list” (box symbol) and fill in the application form.
- Pay the handling fees in order to submityour application form online.

No. Some documents will have to be submitted by post.
The following applies for the documents: An upload is only sufficient for documents that do not require official certification.
Please make sure to inform yourself at your chosen universities about how you have to submit your documents to us.
In general, the following applies:
- Submit your application form electronically via our online portal My assist.
- Send your educational certificates (including the overview of subjects and grades) and language certificates as officially certified copies in the original language and, if necessary, also in certified translation (into either English or German) by post.
- Other documents (for example, internship certificates, a CV, letters of motivation, letters of recommendation, passport copies, etc.) can be uploaded to your My assist account.
Many universities accept online-only applications using simple copies (scans) of all documents.
Check here if your chosen university accepts online-only applications. If so, simply submit all required documents as an upload – even without official certification.
Please note:
All required application documents, whether submitted online or by post, must be received by uni-assist before the end of the application deadline.
Creating multiple accounts may cause problems with your application.
Please use only one My assist account for your applications.
Please do not register multiple times.
Application
For technical reasons, you can only see new uploads and new applications on My assist. However, your old data can still be viewed by our team.
If you would like to view your old data, simply log in to the old online portal: ww2.uni-assist.de/online/Frontend/Login/index
You can easily create the application form yourself in our online portal My assist:
1. Enter your applicant information and educational history if you have not already done so. Then you will be able to create your applications. Do not forget to save your entries!
2. Go back to the start and select your desired course of study. To do so, use the search below “Course Catalogue.”
Tip: It is best to specify only the desired semester and university to be able to receive the university’s entire course offer. You can choose your desired course of study from the result list.
If you apply for a preliminary review documentation (VPD), the application may display the academic field "alle Fächer" (= all subjects) in the result list for some universities.
3. Once you have found your desired course of study, click on “Select.” Select the course semester and click on “Add to selection.” Now go to the “Selection list” by clicking on the box symbol. Click on “Show additional application-related questions” and answer the questions completely and truthfully.
Note: The universities supply the application forms. Therefore, the questions may vary from university to university.
4. For the last step, click on “Proceed to checkout” to pay the handling fee and submit your application. You will receive a confirmation of receipt by email, generally within 24 hours.
In order to apply for a preparatory German language course or the DSH exam, you generally simply have to apply for a course of study in our online portal My assist. Select the course you would like to study after the German language course or the DSH exam. To do so, use the search below “Course Catalogue”:
- It is best to specify only the desired semester and university to be able to receive the university’s entire course offer.
- You found your desired course of study? Then click on “Select.” Fill in the application form completely and truthfully.
- Answer “Yes” to the question “Are you applying for admission to a preparatory German language course/admission to the DSH exam?”
We will then also process this application as an application for the German language course or the DSH exam.
Two additional notes:
- A small number of universities use a separate application form for the German language course or the DSH exam in My assist. It is best to find out how to apply from the university of your choice.
- Please also find out the requirements for attending a German language course or the DSH exam from the university.

In order to apply for the Studienkolleg (preparatory course), you usually have to apply for a course of study in our online portal My assist. Please select the course you would like to study after the Studienkolleg. To do so, use the search below “Course Catalogue”:
- It is best to specify only the desired semester and university to be able to receive the university’s entire course offer.
- You found your desired course of study? Then click on “Select.” Select the desired course semester and click on “Add to selection.” Go to the “Selection list” by clicking on the box symbol. Fill in the application form completely and truthfully.
- Answer “Yes” to the question “Are you applying for admission to a Studienkolleg?”
If you need to attend a Studienkolleg before your studies, we will process this application as an application for the Studienkolleg.
Two additional notes:
- Please find out the requirements for attending a Studienkolleg from the university of your choice.
- It is best to also find out how to apply for the Studienkolleg from the university.

Try the following solution if you cannot find your desired course of study:
Choose fewer search parameters in the search below “Course Catalogue.“ It is best to only choose your desired semester and the university. You will then receive the university‘s entire study offer.
Please note:
The application via My assist is only possible once your chosen university has activated the applications. Only then you can create an application. Please check with the university when they will activate applications in My assist.
This can happen for the following reason:
The application period for your chosen study course may not have begun yet. Please check with the university when the online application will be activated in the online portal My assist.
Please check if you have answered all the mandatory questions. Only after doing so can you pay for and submit your online application to uni-assist.
Upload
If you want to upload documents, please note the following:
- You can only upload pdf files.
- Each file can be a maximum of 10 MB in size.
- A firewall may be preventing the uploading of your documents. If so, you will receive the error message “Bad Request”. Disable your firewall or try to upload the files from a different computer.
Documents you have uploaded cannot be deleted.
Do you want to update certain documents? Then simply upload a newer version. We will then take the newest version into consideration when processing your application documents.
You can submit an individual letter of motivation/recommendation or individual CV for each application. If you want to use the same version for all applications, one copy is sufficient.
Do you want to submit an individual document for each application? Simply name the university of your choice as well as the course of study you are applying to, visibly and in bold print, at the very top of your document. We will then be able to assign your document to the right university.
Password
Your old login details are no longer valid for My assist. In order for you to enjoy all new features, please also register in My assist: my.uni-assist.de/registrierung
When doing so, please make sure to add your old applicant number to help us match your data to your new account. As soon as our team has checked your information, we will send a confirmation by email. Until then, you can use your My assist account without restrictions.
