ECTS

System to accredit studies completed in other European countries.

Short for: European Credit Transfer System

Students are allocated a specific number of points, called ECTS points, for each module they complete successfully. They are also called: Credit Points (CP), "Leistungspunkte" (LP) or "Kreditpunkte" (KP). A module consists of several classes with similar topics.

ECTS points are not grades (which measure performance) but are awarded in addition to grades. They measure the amount of work invested by the student. This includes preparation and reviewing time for courses. One ECTS point corresponds to 25–30 hours of time, depending on the country.
