Select your chosen course

You can easily create the application form yourself in My assist:

1. Select your chosen course of study using the search function.

Tip: Select only your chosen semester and university. You will then see the university’s entire course offer. Then choose your course of study from the results list.

If you are applying for a preliminary review documentation (VPD), the application may show only the academic field "alle Fächer" (= all subjects) in the results list for some universities.

2. Go to your “Selection list” by clicking on the box symbol. Click on “Show additional application-related questions” and answer the questions completely and truthfully.

Note: The universities supply the application forms, so the questions may vary from university to university.

3. Submit your application by paying the handling fee.

To apply for a preparatory German language course or the DSH exam, you generally have to first apply for a course of study in My assist. Select the course you want to study after the German course or DSH exam. To do so, use the search below “Search courses of study”:

  1. Select just your chosen semester and university. You will then see the university’s entire course offer.

  2. You found your chosen course of study? Then click on “Select.” Fill in the application form completely and truthfully.

  3. Do you see the question “Are you applying for admission to the DSH exam / a German language course?” Answer „Yes“ to this question.

You do not see the question? We will then process this application as an application for the DSH exam or the German language course automatically.

Two additional notes:

  • uni-assist is not automatically responsible for all applications for the DSH exam or German course at a uni-assist university. Please find out from the university directly whether you should apply for their DSH exam or German course via uni-assist. If so, also ask whether the university uses a separate application form for their DSH exam or German course in My assist.
  • Please also find out the requirements for attending a German language course or the DSH exam from the university.

Status & evaluation result: Processing times

You will usually receive your evaluation result within 4 to 6 weeks – counting from the day on which we received your online application form. We evaluate all applications received in order of their arrival.

We inform you by email as soon as the evaluation result is available in your My assist account. You will then find out if your application is complete.

If your application is not complete, we provide you with a list of what is missing. You can submit missing documents up until the application deadline.

Additional information:

The most important thing is that uni-assist receives your completed application before the application deadline expires.

uni-assist has agreed on its own deadlines with the universities for processing applications. This means we can continue to process your application, even after the deadline for you to submit your completed application has passed.

Generally, the universities do not start their admission processes until uni-assist has processed all the applications that we received that were complete and submitted within the application deadline.

Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow more time for your application, because you generally still have to apply to the university directly using the VPD. The agreement with the universities mentioned above does not apply to the VPD procedure.

You can check the status of your application in your My assist account via the application overview.

You will find the current status directly below your chosen study course. The status will change after we have completely processed your application (or any documents you have submitted later).

To find out what your status means, please read Status of my application.

Your application's status stays the same until we have processed your new documents. If we determine that your application now meets all of the university’s criteria, we will then update its status.

More information:

No, we cannot give preference to certain applications.

We recommend that you apply as early as possible. Enquire about the visa at the embassy. At many German embassies, you can apply for a student applicant visa with a positive evaluation result from uni-assist.

After submitting your application online, you can upload more documents at any time before the application deadline.

Processing times for additional documents depend on your application status:

  • Status “in evaluation“: The processing period begins on the day on which you submit your online application and is usually four to six weeks. If you upload more documents during this time, processing will not take longer.

  • Different status: The processing period begins on the day on which you upload the additional document and is usually four to six weeks.

Status & evaluation result: Evaluation result

If your documents are incomplete, we cannot forward your application, unfortunately.

We will inform you in our evaluation result which documents are missing. If the application deadline is still open, you can still complete your application.

Tip: Apply as early as possible, at least 8 weeks before the application deadline expires if possible. That way you can still submit any missing documents in time.

Are you applying for the preliminary review documentation (VPD)? If so, you should allow even more time for your application, because you still have to apply to the university directly using the VPD.

More information:
