VPD - preliminary review documentation
Some of our universities use special application procedures. Find out here what a VPD ("Vorprüfungsdokumentation") is and what you need to consider.
The preliminary review documentation (VPD)
For some universities, we issue a VPD. It contains the following information:
- which educational certificates were submitted
- how uni-assist evaluates these educational certificates
- how uni-assist rates the grade in the German grading system
Universities that use the VPD procedure
You can find out from our list of uni-assist universities and directly from your chosen university which universities use the VPD procedure. Your chosen university can advise you about which applicants require a VPD and which documents you need to upload in your My assist account.
Applying using the VPD procedure
Apply online for your chosen university using My assist. If the university requires a VPD, your application is a request for a VPD.
Use the checklist:
Checklist: VPD (Preliminary Review Documentation) in 3 + 1 steps
uni-assist issues the VPD specifically for your chosen university. When you apply directly to the university, you then specify which course or courses you are applying for.
If all of the required documents have been uploaded, we will issue the VPD. We inform you by email as soon as the VPD is available to download in your My assist account under “My Inbox.”
Processing times
The processing of your VPD application usually takes 4 to 6 weeks after you have submitted your online application form.
You can apply for a VPD at any time. It is valid for one year from its date of issue, no matter which semester you select in My assist.
Important: Plan enough time for your application. Request your VPD as early as possible, ideally at least 8 weeks before the deadline. We will then have time to inform you if any documents are missing.
Submitting your VPD to the university
You then apply directly to the university. Submit your VPD as an upload, together with your application documents, directly to your university before the deadline. For more information, please contact the university of your choice.
