The founding of uni-assist

uni-assist e.V. was founded as an association on 4th November 2003 by 41 universities, the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the HRK (German Rectors' Conference (HRK). Prof. Dr. Jörg Steinbach of the Technische Universität Berlin was elected president and Prof. Dr. Joachim Metzner of the Fachhochschule Köln (Cologne University of Applied Sciences) was elected vice-president. The association was registered in June 2004.
The founding of the association was planned during a two-year period, for the most part by a Berlin-Brandenburg team and later a "Masterplan" group.
The work of the association officially started on 1st December 2003 in the new office of Helmholtzstraße 2-9, 10587 Berlin under the direction of Thomas Liljeberg.

The managing committee of uni-assist consists of:

Dr. Christian Bode, secretary general of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

Prof. Dr. Sabine E. Kunst, president of the University of Potsdam
