Master's Degree Programme

uni-assist also Reviews Applications for Master's Degree Programmes

In the wake of the Bologna Process, many German universities established highly specialised Master's degree programmes characterised by very specific educational requirements that applicants have to meet. This means, that the Bachelor degrees, which have to be verified for gaining access to these Master's degree programmes, must correspond to the specific profile of the respective Master's degree programme. Moreover, candidates often have to give proof of professional experience and convincingly state (e.g. in a letter of address and/or letter of recommendation) why they are a suitable candidate for this course of study.

Conversely, this means that the universities need to assess not only purely formal criteria, but also highly specific criteria in the admission procedure for Master's degree programmes. This is a logistically demanding process involving many different people, that is, administration staff at the admission offices as well as professors from the individual departments. Many universities first let uni-assist review and document the formal criteria for Master's degree applications. uni-assist assesses individual and overall grades, documents all relevant criteria and supplies the final sets of data on an internet-based portal, where the university colleagues can further process the applications and have them assessed in a decentralised manner.

uni-assist Reviews also Master's Degree Applications from German Applicants

Master's degree programmes are internationalised courses of study. In contrast to the Bachelor degree programmes, the Master's programmes often do not require separated admission procedures for German and foreign candidates, since all Bachelor degrees have to be examined as to whether the respective study profile actually corresponds with the profile of the chosen Master's programme, no matter whether the degree was acquired in Germany or abroad. As during the application period a large number of applications needs to be processed within a few weeks, uni-assist removes a considerable load from the universities. At the same time, the applicants have the advantage of applying to a central institution and thus need to provide only one set of application documents for several universities. Of course, this effect cumulates with an increasing number of universities becoming a member of uni-assist.
