The uni-assist coordination procedure

At German universities, many degree programs have restrictions on admission. This means that there are only a limited number of places and that not every applicant who fulfils the formal requirements will automatically be admitted. In order to improve their prospects for acquiring a place, many applicants apply to several universities at the same time.

Uni-assist has developed a coordination procedure in order to simplify the universities' admission process and to make it more transparent and, above all, quicker. A special advantage of the uni-assist coordination procedure is that it matches what both applicants and universities are looking for in a centrally managed, optimised process.

Through the uni-assist coordination procedure:

  • as many applicants as possible will receive a university place
  • as few placements as possible will remain vacant
  • the applicants’ interests will be protected. You may still apply for an unlimited number of universities and might receive several admissions.
  • applicants will be able to use the uni-assist online system to keep themselves informed about the status of their application and will learn a lot earlier from which universities they may expect an admission
  • applicants and universities will have and retain full freedom of choice
  • the universities will know sooner whether all their places will be filled or whether they can admit further applicants.

Here is what you will have to do

If you would like to apply to more than one university at the same time, in addition to your application forms you have to complete our form "List of priorities" and indicate your preferences for every degree program of your choice. If you are applying online, you will be asked to enter your priorities electronically. Incidentally, you may also enter your priorities online if you have sent us your application by mail. (Just register at 'Online application' and access your account.)

You will thus create your personal list of priorities by numbering all degree programs you would like to apply for. The degree program you favor the most will be number 1 on the list, all other degree programs should follow in your prioritised order.  If a particular university allows you to apply for several different courses with them, then this university will always consider your first choice over your second, third, etc.

Please list all degree programs of your choice, even if some of the universities you have applied for are not members of uni-assist. Of course, we will treat your data as strictly confidential. Lists of priorities are not passed on to the universities, but are solely used for internal calculating purposes at uni-assist.

Note!: The list of priorities cannot replace an application form! Please use this form only for degree programs for which you have also handed in an application form.
